Edward LEE (1886 - 1916)

Edward LEE was born in 1886 in Chippenham in Cambridgeshire to the Reverend Arthur George and Clara LEE (maiden surname MAUL). His father was the Vicar of Chippenham. He was 1 of 6 children, 1 of whom died in infancy. One of Edward’s brothers, Richard was also killed in World War 1.

In 1891 Edward was 5 years old and he was living with his family at West House, West Street, Walsham Le Willow. His father was listed as a Clerk in Holy Orders, Rector of Longham.

He was sent to Haileybury College in Great Amwell, Hertfordshire and is listed there on the 1901 census as a student age 15.

Edward entered the Hertfordshire Regiment on 16 July 1915. He died on 15 October 1916 at the age of 30. He was awarded the 1915 star, the British and Victory Medals. He is listed on the Commonwealth War Graves site and is commemorated at Lonsdale Cemetery, Authuille, in France.
