1. Tool collection

Graphics/Tool_1.JPG@Tool 1Collection of adzes for shaping wood, 2 hand forged nails, two old dowel boring tools and one hand forged small pick for which the specific use is not known! One of these adzes Jim used many many years ago!

2. The Adze

Graphics/Tool_2.JPG@Tool 2 Graphics/Tool_4.JPG@Tool 4 Graphics/Tool_5.JPG@Tool 5 Graphics/Tool_7.JPG@Tool 7 Graphics/Tool_8.JPG@Tool 8 Graphics/Tool_10.JPG@Tool 10These are adze, their specific use unknown. It is thought they would have had an opposite hand because they could have only be used with the grain of the timber. Possible used for shaping boat hulls, Church flag poles, etc. They may be specifically for left or right handed persons. Note the shaft is not in line, it's at 90 degrees to the cutting edge.

3. Mortice chisels

Graphics/Tool_3.JPG@Tool 3Old and very old mortice chisel's with a square section for strength. The fat one Jim used years ago.

4. Cross cut hand saw

Graphics/Tool_6.JPG@Tool 6An old American Diston Cross cut hand saw, six points to the inch [American], used by Jim years ago. Useful links: OldTools.co.uk; Disston; Henry Disston; Disstonian Institute

5. Graft and hammer

Graphics/Tool_9.JPG@Tool 9Both these were found at Starston Railway Station. Both the grip on the graft and the handle/shaft on the double sided lump hammer are not original. Weight of hammer approximately 3lbs. Again specific use for both tools unknown.

Many thanks to Jim for allowing these images to be used on this website.
