Trade Directories
Historic trade directories are references that list businesses and professionals in a specific area, similar to a "Yellow Pages" or telephone directory for their time. Typically they provide information about local communities, including the names of business owners, tradespeople, and sometimes private residents, along with local institutions and charities, and advertisements for both local and national companies. They were produced more frequently than the National Census Returns and help to fill gaps in information about individuals and communities and offer insights into the socio-economic structure of towns, how people lived, and the changes in communities over time.
Some of the available directories have been transcribed for the Lopham villages.
