The Hertfordshire Mercury, Saturday, September 15, 1883, page 4

HERTFORD COUNTY SESSIONS. Sept. 8.

A CHARGE OF ASSAULT WITHDRAWN.

Robert Chuck, a respectable-looking young man, was placed in the dock on the charge of assaulting Eliza Halsey, at North Mimms, on the 5th September.

Complainant (who still had her head bound up) informed the magistrate that she did not wish to “to follow the law” on the defendant.

Inspector York said the defendant was given into custody at the time, and was afterwards bailed out until today.

On being asked why she wished to withdraw the proceedings, complainant said she and the defendant had made it up between them, and did not wish to go on with it.

The magistrates thereupon allowed the case to be withdrawn on the complainant paying the costs incurred.
