Newspaper: | In the Norwich Mercury on 06.07.1867 the following appeared: STEALING FOWLS AT DISS Thomas Colman (17), fowl dealer, and Jeremiah Colman (60), gardener, were charged with stealing nine ducks, of the value of 11s., the property of William Michael Hawes, at Diss, on the 8th May. As the younger prisoner pleaded guilty, Mr. Mayd, who held the brief for the prosecution, withdrew the charge against the old man, he being of the opinion that if the case went to the jury there would be no conviction. Jeremiah Colman was accordingly acquitted, and the young man sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment. |
Newspaper: | In the London Gazette on 07.09.1880 the following notice appeared: The Bankruptcy Act, 1869. In the County of Suffolk, holden at Ipswich. In the Matter of Proceedings for Liquidation by arrangement or Composition with Creditors, instituted by William Michael Hawes, of Diss, in the County of Norfolk, Miller. NOTICE is hereby given, that the First General Meeting of the creditors of the above-named person has been summoned to be held at the King’s Head Hotel, Diss, in the County of Norfolk, on the 23rd day of September, 1880, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon precisely. - Dated this 2nd day of September, 1880. E. THOMPSON SMITH, Solicitor for the said William Michael Hawes. |
