Note on Marriage

Diss Express, 14 July 1950 - "Mr. D.H. Dennington and Miss R. C. Barnes - St. Mary's Church, Tharston, which was filled to capacity, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Saturday [08.07.1950] when Mr. Dudley Hugh Dennington youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs H. Dennington, of White House, Silfield, was married to Miss Rosanna Constance Barnes, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Barnes, of Mill Farm, Tharston. - Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin, embossed with lily of the valley, and lace Bolero. Her veil was held in place with a lace Juliant cap, studded with diamante studs, and carried a bouquet of red roses, cream carnations, white heather and fern. She was attended by four bridesmaids and two page boys, Miss Mary Barnes and Miss Margaret Barnes (sisters), who wore dresses of moire silk with matching head-dress, they carried bouquets of pink carnations, scabious and fern; Miss Pauling Barnes (niece of the bride) and Miss Jane Dennington (niece of the bridegroom) who wore dresses of powder blue net with matching head-dresses and carried posies of mixed flowers; Master John Barnes and Master David Barnes (nephews of the bride) wore wine chiffon velvet trousers and powder blue blouses. - Mr. Hilary Bayfield (friend of the bridegroom) was best man. - The Rev. Palfrey, of Thorpe, Norwich (friend of the bridegroom) officiated, assisted by the Rev. R. Maudsley (Vicar of Tharston). Mr. G. Lake, of Norwich (uncle of the bridegroom) was organist, and the hymns sung were 'Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us and 'O Perfect Love.' As the bridal couple left the church a peal was rung on the Church bells. - A reception, attended by about one hundred and thirty guests, was afterwards held in a marquee on the lawn at Mill Farm. The marquee was beautifully decorated with Madonna lilies and carnations. - Later Mr. and Mrs. Dennington left by car for Bournemouth, where the honeymoon is being spent. Mrs. Dennington wearing a turquoise dress with dusty pink accessories. - They were the recipients of a large number of handsome and useful presents, including a Pyrex casserole and sauceboat in silver stands, from the employees of Mill Farm."
