Military:Fergus joined the military at Aldershot on 29 March 1915 and was posted the the Army Service Corps. To 16 April 1915 he served on home soil, joining the B.E.F. in France on 18.09.1917, returning home on 15.12.1917 having been gased. He married Sarah Jane GREEN on 15 July 1915 in North Lopham - groom 28, private, single, from Aldershot; bride 29, single from North Lopham. On 3 August 1917 he transferred to the 4th Bn. Essex Regiment, Private 39503, joining the B.E.F. in France on 18.09.1917, transferring to the 2nd Bn. on the 24.09.1917, returning home on 15.12.1917 having been gased. He transferred to the Tipperary Depot on the 07.05.1918. He was transferred on 8 March 1919 to Class “Z” Army Reserve on demobilization, returning to Church Farm, North Lopham.
Notes:The Norfolk Public Houses website gives Robert as the landlord of the King's Head from 1933 to 1939. He took it over from his father, Robert.
